BEHIND THE SCENES: INDY FILM "MATERNAL PRIDE"

Two years ago when  I produced my final school project,  The Organized Chaos Style Show, I wanted it to be this big huge production with all these extravagant pieces and huge grandiose runway structures etc. etc. etc..... Yeah for a student show with absolutely zero budget none of that happened but it was a really nice show and all of the clothes were sponsored by Unique Thrift Store (one of my fave places to shop).

I wanted a fly video to go along with the it and I met this awesome videographer/director named Jasmine on NEOhiopal (a listserv for theater productions). She shot and edited everything for me and made my vid so awesome that I told her whenever she needed a costumer for her first feature I would do it no questions asked.  That time came with her film Maternal Pride, a short with local actors and actresses from Cleveland and the surrounding areas.

I had no idea what to do but read up on it and just so happened to have scored a position as assistant to costume designer Carol Beadle- who had just completed the movie "The Runaways" and the Katie Perry and Kanye West video- on a movie called "Tomorrow You're Gone" (formally known as "Boot Tracks"with Steven Dorff and Michelle Monaghan) before Maternal Pride filming began and learned a lot from that set (yes, it was a great summer for ya girl, post later I promise).

By the time MP was ready to start shooting I had confidence in what my job as costumer consisted of.  This film has had many stops and starts, but Jasmine's determination to complete this baby inspires me! We have only a few scenes left to shoot in August and I can't wait to see the final results.  Here are a few photos from last year....

On location in the hot hot sun shooting a car scene.

Me steaming the heck out of a pair of yoga pants.

One of the actors shoes was wet and I had to strategically dab the other to match the "wet look".

Makeup artist Cassie giving one of the leads a quick line up.

Jasmine, awesome female director!
